I'm praying for drop dead. The sooner the better.

I lost my job because of this genocidal f*ckwit, but that's not nearly as horrific as the WWIII this megalomaniac is trying to start. For the safety of the entire world as well as my backward country, he needs to be gone: NOW!

Sadly, the only people who have the power to curb him are Republicans in the House and Senate (he has already stocked the Supreme Court with his toadies) and thus far, all of them have shown they are too selfish, corrupt, or cowardly to actually uphold their oath to the Constitution and the US citizens they represent.

Sure, sure, we all hope for a good turnout in the midterm elections so that the Democrats can take control of the House and Senate and finally put a halt to this abusive insanity, but because no one with the power to do so has thus far stopped his complete trashing of the Constitution and abuse of power, I'm doubting the midterms will ever actually take place.

Trouble is, the Democrats' guns are pretty much aimed squarely at their own feet. They consistently fail to strategize effectively.

Watch the California Gubernatorial Primary, for instance. Want to bet the Democrats fail to reduce their multitude of candidates, thereby allowing the 2 Republicans running to place one and two in the race? That would guarantee a Republican Governor in CA.

(From BallotPedia; California utilizes a top-two primary system. In a top-two primary system, all candidates are listed on the same ballot. The top two vote-getters, regardless of their partisan affiliations, advance to the general election. Consequently, it is possible that two candidates belonging to the same political party could win in a top-two primary and face off in the general election."

<sigh>

I have two different hygrometers to tell me whether the humidity is OK in my violin case.

One of them tells me something close to believable, and the other will never again be trusted.

Right now, there are many people who are open to believing what is in front of their eyes, and another group (now at the helm of government) that no longer have any interest in observing anything, but only in what they want and believe.

That second group is now in control.

Belief, for them, goes beyond fact.

The shape of the declivity in which they find themselves, as you have observed, shapes whatever opinion or belief that they have.

It's so much more relaxing to give in, and resonate, with whatever is coming from the powerful authority. An authority, by the way, that has a lot of weapons and force on his side.

Thought, and resistance, require a lot of effort and courage.

It's not so much growing a spine as the real art of diplomacy that prevents the implosion of NATO (which Trump's financial backer would enjoy) and needing to buy stuff from the USA to keep Ukraine in the game (against said financial backer) while we wait for a (hopefully) more reasonable successor to turn up.

Iran seems to have been a giant pump and dump scheme for oil prices, funded by the US tax payer.

Germany already served a neat rebuff. "The USA can't sanction Spain because all the trade agreements are with Europe". France seems like they want to drop a few bombs on Iran themselves. The UK is probably remembering Suez.

Meanwhile all eyes are on the Hungarian elections which Vance is trying to influence to keep Putin's man in power.

Strange times.

Humanity in general (the majority) isn't very bright. And to make up for the lack of logical thinking there's emotions. So Trump. So history. So sorry.

I have external validation as a "reasonably intelligent" person, given academic, professional and various pre-contract aptitude testing that all place me in the top 5% (or better, leaving room for slop in the testing) for thinking ability and educational depth and breadth.

And I'm often a complete idiot in my assessments, in my immediate verbal reactions during conversation, and in my personal righteous arrogance. I am blinded by wilful biases towards compassion vs self-benefit, trust vs cynicism, empathetic vs callous.

It's no surprise that if most people are stupider than me, around a third of US adults are so stupid that they voted for Trump twice, and too stupid and unable to change their minds to publicly and visibly demand his immediate removal.

I know some Trump voters through family connections, and all of them that have a plausible reason to vote for him, cite abortion as their "trumps all the negatives about Trump". He got Roe vs Wade overturned, so he's "doing God's work".

Yet another reason dogmatic faith-based leadership selection is terrible.

I too know several people who admit they are single-issue voters in that abortion is the ONLY issue that really matters to them.

I realize the steps are relatively small, but Mark Carney seems to be not only standing up to Trump and significantly advancing Canada's role in international economics, but doing so while maintaining a record of moral virtue and constancy...As a former Canadian, I'm only sorry the country is such a darn cold place to live! ;/

It's not much consolation, and one data point is also not much information, if any, but 'watch this space.' RMG Research (also known as Rasmussen for Scott Rasmussen who runs it, and whose right wing politics I pretty much hate) reported a net disapproval for Trump of 18% in their latest poll - Mar 25 - Apr. 2. For Mar. 18 to Mar. 26, it was only net 9%. It's tough for any republicrap to get a net disapprove from RMG, since they are generally very effective at finding their kind of voter to poll, and for it to get that much bigger in one week is something I haven't seen before. Also, this was before Easter, and a significant number of magats think it's a disgrace he dropped an online f-bomb on Easter Sunday. They are fine with dropping actual bombs, but an obscenity on a holyday was too much. If this week's RMG disapproval goes over 20%, water could start leaking though the crack in the dam...

Why so glum?

I am hoping for some seriously lucrative business from the current situation.

That's because my job is to develop and use geophysical and remote sensing methods to find and analyse the contents of mass graves in former war zones.

I have colleagues who do a good sideline in finding the remains of the victims of Mexican drug gangs.

Things are looking up, worldwide!

[And, just to be clear, this is intended as the very darkest satire. I f***ing love my job. I f***ing hate that it's necessary].

Why should you expect otherwise, just look at Gaza.

And just like that, they started a new genocide, this time in Lebanon.

It's only one thing you can rely on, it's that Israel or USA will never honour any agreement they make. So, I guess someone close to Trump shorted the oil prices, and the stock market ate it all up, tomorrow the war will continue on, and it will not end before USA and Israel is destroyed. Unfortunately noone is keen on doing what needs to be done, for the greater good of humanity.

If anyone was wondering whether to get nukes or not, it's now clear, it's your only guarantee against an USA or Israel invasion or attack.

There’s a part of me (one I don’t like) that hears these threats and thinks “do it then”.

Russia has hinted at nuclear war off and on for the last four years, ever since the first Ukrainian farmer stole a tank. Netanyahu would probably love to finish off Gaza and/or Lebanon with the bombs he may or may not have. And the US president has now threatened to destroy an entire civilization; the implication is pretty damn clear.

So, to hell with it. If we’re going to have Armageddon in my lifetime, if modern civilization has to end thanks to the depravity of a few powerful men, let’s get it over with. Push the button or shut up, because I’m sick of the big talk. Quit letting your mouths write checks that your asses can’t cash.

(The deep dark recesses of my soul approve this message.)
